  • On the importance of SEO: If you write an amazing piece but don’t do any SEO work on it, no one will ever find it and it will just exist out there in the ether all alone! Also sad!
  • On meta descriptions: This is a sneaky lil dude. It lives nowhere visible on your webpage and visitors can’t see it, so it’s often forgotten about. If you don’t manually update it, Google will likely pull the first sentence or two of copy into this section. Which depending on how you set up that first paragraph, maybe not be what you want displayed here. 
  • On keyword volume: In the above example, we searched for board game cafe and found quite a few results over 1,000. If we edit that keyword phrase to be board game cafe in Phoenix Arizona, that number decreases quite a bit. But perhaps that’s okay if your board game cafe is located in PHX because you know those people using that keyword phrase are better customers for you.
  • On measurement: Measuring SEO can be a little bit nebulous as it’s constantly changing over time (your competitors are also trying to improve their rankings at the same time), and every user sees different results based on their search history, location and demographics. E.g. Someone who watches the Chicago Cubs all the time will likely see Louisville Sluggers instead of an animal sanctuary when they search for bats.
